Gum Disease Treatment

It’s hard to have healthy teeth without healthy gums! So, we are vigilant about looking for signs of gum disease (periodontal disease) at Premier Dental. If we find gum disease during your dental exam, Bordentown, NJ dentist Dr. Gopal can start the gum disease treatment, eradicate it with a deep cleaning procedure called scaling and root planing.

Why is gum disease such a big deal? It is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Not only that, but the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates that one of every two Americans over the age of 30 has gum disease.

Worried about gum disease? Call Premier Dental at 609-298-1124.

Two Stages Of Gum Disease

In its earliest stages, gum disease is called gingivitis. Symptoms include red, swollen gums that bleed when you brush your teeth. It’s a good idea to visit our Bordentown, NJ office if you have tender gums, even if it’s not time for your regular dental exam, so we can clean your teeth and remove the bacteria-laden plaque that causes gum disease.

If gum disease is not addressed in this early stage, it can become periodontitis, or advanced gum disease. You lose bone around your teeth and your gums begin pulling away, forming “pockets” where more bacteria can gather and put your teeth at risk.

Gum Disease Treatment

If you have periodontal disease, we’ll suggest a two-part gum disease treatment called scaling and root planing. Dr. Gopal will:

An anesthetic gel is placed on your gums to remove discomfort, so injections are rarely necessary.
