Stained teeth are not inevitable, though. While our smiles do tend to darken as we age, you can help prevent that from happening by avoiding certain foods and drinks:
Practicing good oral hygiene and staying away from acidic foods like citrus helps keep your enamel nice and smooth — and more resistant to stubborn pigments.
If you must consume foods and drinks that will darken your smile, try to brush your teeth afterward. If that’s not possible, drink lots of water to keep your mouth clean.

There’s a huge variety of over-the-counter teeth-whitening treatments available, from toothpastes to strips to gels. Some are similar in design to our system, in that they use a whitening gel held in your mouth with a tray. They trays that come with these products are not custom made, however, so they won’t be a perfect fit for your mouth. This means they may not be comfortable to wear and they may not cover your teeth. You also risk the gel spilling over onto your sensitive gums.
And drugstore kits contain much lower concentrations of active whitening ingredient than our KoR professional systems. They may not be work at all — or if they do, they will require a longer treatment duration, which may cause pain or sensitivity.
So don’t waste your time messing around with harsh, ineffective over-the-counter kits. Do it right the first time with professional whitening.

When you come for your appointment, we will examine your teeth to make sure you are a good candidate for teeth whitening. We will then explain the pros and cons of the take-home vs. in-office treatment and help you come to a decision.
If you choose KoR’s take-home kit, you will take your custom trays and gel home to whiten at your convenience. You will wear the product for a prescribed amount of time each day for about two weeks. After that, periodic maintenance treatments should be all you require to keep your teeth looking great.
For the chairside system, you will get two procedures in our dental office, with periodic home treatments in between.
